About Universal Basic Infrastructure

UBIf is reimagining how communities organize, fund, and build infrastructure together—starting with a founding chapter in Warrensburg, NY, and growing outward.

Our Mission

To empower communities to design, fund, and govern infrastructure that meets their needs, using mutual aid, democratic processes, and open networks.

Our Vision

A world where communities control their own infrastructure destiny—where water, energy, food, digital access, and transportation are organized by and for the people they serve.

Our Approach

Local autonomy + solidarity networks + open knowledge. We scale by connecting chapters, sharing learnings, and building infrastructure that grows with communities.

Core Principles

Community Power

Infrastructure decisions are made by and for the communities they serve. Power flows from the ground up, not top-down.

Mutual Aid

We solve problems together, pooling skills, resources, and time. Success is shared; risk is distributed.

Democratic Governance

Every project operates through participatory decision-making. Accountability flows to the community, not a central authority.

Transparency & Accountability

All processes, budgets, and decisions are open. We report to our communities and adapt based on feedback.

Open Knowledge

What we build, we document and share. Other communities learn from our successes and mistakes.

Solidarity Networks

Local chapters remain autonomous, but linked through shared values, resources, and mutual support.

Movement Timeline

Early 2026 – Start Discussions

Begin community conversations about UBIf and the potential for building universal basic infrastructure that serves people's needs.

Mid 2026 – Launch Website & Recruit

Create the UBIf website and platform. Begin recruiting volunteers and building a community of people interested in shaping the movement.

Late 2026 – Launch First Project

Start the first real UBIf project. Prove the model works and demonstrate how communities can organize, fund, and govern infrastructure together.

2027 – Spread Nationally

Expand across the United States. New chapters launch in multiple states. The network grows and knowledge is shared between communities.

2028 – Spread Globally

First international chapters launch. The movement becomes truly global while maintaining local autonomy and adapting to each community's context.

How We Scale

From Local to Global

UBIf scales by connecting autonomous local chapters through a shared commitment to principles, open knowledge, and mutual aid. Each chapter adapts the model to its context.

  • Warrensburg/Local: Our founding chapter, proving the model works
  • Regional: Groups of chapters supporting each other across a geographic area
  • National: A network of regional networks sharing standards and learning
  • Global: International chapters adapting our approach to their contexts
